Teaching organisation

3 hours per week (two hours of lectures and one hour of tutorial) for 12 weeks or equivalent in intensive mode or online.

Unit rationale, description and aim

This unit examines the principles of leadership and their application to leadership practices in our contemporary society. The unit will challenge participants to reflect on leadership and management theories, strategies and practices and analyse them from a number of perspectives to identify their relevance to managing functions and organisations in the public and private sectors. Participants will be challenged to identify the basic values and assumptions underpinning these various approaches with a view to determining their own philosophy and values and how these will help shape their leadership and management practices. The unit will help participants to become acquainted to respond effectively and authentically to the many challenges, tensions and paradoxes facing today's organisations.
